Those who control death in Japan
Death comes to all people.
There are beings who control death in every region and religion of the world.
Today I would like to introduce some of the beings who control death in Japan.
Izanami
She is one of the husband and wife gods who created Japan in Japanese mythology.
Izanami is the wife and Izanagi is the husband.
And in Japanese mythology, Izanami was the first to die.
Izanagi lamented and tried to bring Izanami back from the underworld.
On the way back from the underworld, Izanagi broke his promise and Izanami could not return.
She became angry and said that she would take the lives of 1000 people a day.
Thus she became a god who slides through the underworld.
She is also known as Yomitsu no Okami.
Izanami is worshiped in various forms in Japan, not just as a god of the underworld.
Izanami has many qualities, such as being the god of fertility and safe childbirth, matchmaking, prosperity of descendants, and marital harmony, as she gave birth to many gods.
She is an amazing god.
Enma
The king of the Buddhist underworld.
He is a judge who manages the deeds of the dead while they were alive.
He judges whether they went to heaven if they were good or hell if they were bad.
There is also a story in folklore that if you lie, Enma will pull out your tongue when you go to hell.
It’s a story that says that lying is not good.
Wa-nyudo
There is a Japanese monster called Wa-nyudo.
It is a wooden wheel engulfed in flames with a monk’s face in the middle.
It is said that it runs around the city and steals the soul of anyone who sees it.
It’s scary.
It is said that if you put a sign that says “此所勝母の里” on your door, they will not come near you.
