Memo: Radish leaf nutrition

The root part of radish is basically eaten.

Supermarkets only sell the root part.

It is rarely sold with leaves.

However, the leaves can also be eaten.

This time I looked into radish leaves.

Why are there no leaves in the supermarket?

This is because the roots become thinner when leaves are attached.

Basically, the root part of daikon radish is eaten.

Roots grow while buried in the soil, but stop growing once they emerge from the soil.

However, the leaves will grow regardless of the conditions.

If the radish is not buried in soil, the roots will become sparse as nutrients are taken up by the leaves.

For this reason, the leaves of daikon radish are cut off before harvesting.

It’s such a waste, but I can’t help it.

radish leaf nutrition

The nutrients contained in radish leaves are completely different from those in the roots.

The following are representative ones.

β-carotene

vitamin K

calcium

folic acid

This is exactly the kind of nutrition found in leafy vegetables.

It’s hard to find, but I highly recommend you try it.

summary

These are radish leaves that are rarely available.

However, it is certainly nutritious.

I can’t buy it on the market, so I’ll have to get some connections.

Or, I think it would be better to plant the daikon radish ourselves.

Fortunately, radishes can also be grown in planters.

I would like you to try it.
