It was too hot and there was nothing I could do about it, so I went to cool off.

Nissekiji Temple on Mt. Oiwa.

It’s been a long time since I’ve been here

It’s cool because it’s on top of a mountain.

And my favorite is Sengonkei.

It’s cool in the forest due to the shade of the trees and the wind, but the sight and sound of the mountain stream makes it even cooler.

There are also spots where you can get splashed with water, keeping you cool to the max.

Somen for lunch

When you think of Mt. Oiwa, you think of somen.

The most famous place seems to be a place called Kinryu.

People have been lining up since early in the morning.

Since my kids couldn’t wait in line for long, we ate at Oiwakan, which is right next to Nissekiji Temple.

If you leave someone alone while waiting for a seat, you can wander around.

The soup of the somen noodles is also light, so even children can eat it without worry.

They also have rice balls and salt-grilled char, which are delicious.

The hot season is coming.

Memo: Somen

There are three types of noodles made with Japanese wheat flour.

Udon, somen, and hiyamugi.

There is a clear distinction between these three.

Even Japanese people may not know about it, so knowing it here will make you proud.

difference in thickness

Udon, somen, and hiyamugi are classified by the thickness of the noodles.

Udon is the thickest.

Anything over 1.7mm in diameter is udon.

Items with a diameter of 1.3 mm or more but less than 1.7 mm are Hiyamugi.

And the thinnest one is somen.

All noodles with a diameter of less than 1.3 mm are called somen.

This is a very easy-to-understand division.

No matter who measures it, the same result will come out. I think that’s a great way to judge.

thin and long

It would be a lot easier if we could clearly divide relationships like this.

Humans are classified too precisely.

I want to make it more general, and I want to be more generous.

Maybe everyone is feeling lonely.

I think it’s best to date someone at a comfortable distance.

Not too close, not too far away.

To do this, we both need to have compassion for the other person.

I want to be able to be considerate of others but not get too involved.

You can continue to be together for a long time even if the relationship becomes weak.

If that’s what you want, give somen noodles as a gift.

The meaning of giving somen noodles is to ask for a long-term relationship.

I would like to do the same for my distant friends and family.
