Memo: Is the way Argentina is called unique to Japan?
In Japanese, Argentina is called “a ru ze n chi n”.
However, when cheering at a soccer match, etc., it sounds like “a ru ze n te i na.”
Which one is correct?
I looked it up.
both results are correct
The Japanese word “a ru ze n chi n” was just Japanese.
From a Japanese perspective, this is correct.
But from a global perspective, this seems to be a fairly small minority.
The world standard is “a ru ze n ti na”.
It is as written in English.
World country names in Japanese
There are quite a few countries like Argentina that have different names in the world and in Japan.
I will introduce some of them.
Netherlands
In Japan, it is called “O RA N DA”.
It is said that this is because when the Dutch came to Japan during the Edo period, they heard HOLLAND as “O RA N DA” and the word spread.
Germany
In Japan, it is called “DO i TSU”.
This is simply because Germany is called Deutschland in German.
Japan
And so is our country, Japan.
In Japan, it is called “NI HO N”.
Japan is the easternmost country, and the east is where the sun rises, so it is called NIHON, which means the land of the rising sun.
It seems that JAPAN also comes from JI Taiyo’s PANG origin.
In the end, they mean the same thing.
summary
Japanese has a special way of reading the names of other countries.
What an interesting language!
If there is anything else I would like to introduce.
